Project: Gnocchi
Date:August 2006

Summary:

Gnocchi pronounced "No Key" is a RFID enabled deadbolt. The design was developed by Amal Graafstra. Amal has produced a great book called "RFID Toys" and later came out with the bonus chapter that contained the lock design I used in this project. I only made three changes from Amal's design which cut down on cost and power.

  • Replaced Basic Stamp microcontroller with AVR Mega16
  • Used batteries in deadbolt to power microcontroller and RFID reader
  • Added a button to enable power to microcontroller and RFID reader
